During her visit Jo was introduced to all elements of optical practice and heard about the impact COVID-19 has had on the provision of eye care services in the primary care sector.
Commenting on her visit Jo said: “I’m delighted to have had this opportunity to see first-hand how a sight test really is a vital health check, identifying underlying health conditions such as diabetes, as well as testing your vision and checking your eye health.
I was also struck to see the extraordinary lengths eye care practitioners are going to in order to practice in a Covid secure environment.”
Rosie Gavzey, trustee of the charity Eye Health UK hosted the Minister’s visit and commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome Jo to the practice
today and to talk about the importance of good eye health as well as discussing the realities currently faced by optometrists and optical practices across the country.”
The Minister’s visit included a sight test briefing and was rounded off with a spectacle glazing demonstration conducted by Harvey Kaye.
